Scholarship essay contest open to high school students between the ages of 16 – 18.  Must plan on attending either Middle Tennessee State University in Tennessee, Alpena Community College in Alpena, Michigan, or Lima Technical College in Ohio.  Possible themes for the essay include concrete’s benefits to society:  how concrete affects the environment, and using concrete to build homes, commercial buildings, bridges or roads; and how/why concrete fits into today’s Internet technology

DAR Good Citizens Program & Scholarship Essay Contest

Open to seniors.  Must have the following qualities:  Dependability, Service, Leadership, and Patriotism.  One senior will be selected to participate in the essay contest.  The essay must be written in the presence of a faculty or DAR member within a two-hour time limit.  It is to be no longer than 500 words, and be handwritten in ink or ballpoint pen.  The title of the essay will be announced at the actual time of writing.  Reference material may not be used.  Two letters of recommendation will be required as well.  If interested in being selected, please sign up in Guidance.

Senior planning on attending college full time in the fall with the intention of a major or minor in education.  Student must have a parent who qualifies in one of the following membership categories:  1.  An active WEAC member, 2.  An active retired WEAC member, 3.  A parent who died while holding a WEAC membership.  In addition, student must rank in the top 25% of class, and achieved a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
